  Government higher secondary school Irikkur was started in 1957. The school is situated on a beautiful small hillock about one kilometer away from Irikkur town.Irikkur is situated in the banks of Valapattanam river the longest river in Kannur district.The riverlocally called "Irikkur River " originates from Karnataka forests and wayanad hills.It reaches it`s destination at Azheekkal.Mamanam Temple and Nilamuttam Makham are two important religious centers very near to the school. There are eight buildings for the school. Six of them are permanant buildings and two of them are semi permanant The Higher Secondary wing works in the old block. The school office,laboratary ,library,higher secondary lab etc.work in the main block.It is a two storied building,close to the Irikkur Blathur road. Other buildings are occupied by various classes. In the higher secondary wing there are science, humanities and commerce batches three hundred seats in total. In high school section there are 19 divisions. In primary section there are 5 divisions
