Government higher secondary school Irikkur was started in 1957. The school is situated on a beautiful mountain about one kilometer away from Irikkur town.There is a river"Irikkur River " nearby. The people residing in and around Irikkur are very poor. Mamanam Temple and Nilamuttam Makham are two important religious centers very near to the school.
There are eight buildings for the school. Six of them are permanant buildings and two of them are semi permanant The Higher Secondary wing works in the old block. The school office,laboratary ,library,higher secondary lab etc.work in the main block.It is a two storied building,close to the Irikkur Blathur road. Other buildings are occupied by various classes. In the higher secondary wing there are science and humanities batches. In high school section there are 19 divisions. In primary section there are 5 divisions
